We were recently contacted by Larry Larsen of Vaupell Holdings, who uncovered a fun painted sign on the side of his building that read, “Cook & Co. Pickles.” Larsen is remodeling the building and had removed the circa-1960 siding, revealing lettering on the original wood clapboarding. We’ve since swung by to read these lines that you see in the photo: ”Cook & Co. Pickles / Vinegar / Sauerkraut.” Stop by and enjoy this piece of history at 1130 NW 53rd Street. Ballard is home to the headquarters of Vaupell Holdings, and their Northwest Molding and Tooling operations are conducted in the building.
Thanks, Larry, and no worries — we are not going to make you keep it there! As we say in our Classic Homes Tours, history must mix with modern living! If you’re living in the midst of history or historical artifacts, contact us and we’ll share your story!
